Measles Mini-Module

Learn basic information about the transmission, prevention and symptoms of Measles in this mini-module.

I designed this mini-module concept project to provide basic information to the general public on the transmission, prevention, and symptoms of Measles.

Audience: People in the general public that want information on the transmission, prevention, and symptoms of Measles.

Responsibilities: eLearning development, graphic design, mockups, audio narration, closed caption transcription

Tools Used: Articulate Storyline 360, Canva, PowerPoint, Icons8

Overview

In response to the ongoing measles outbreaks in the United States — with over 884 confirmed cases — I designed a mini eLearning module to educate the general public on measles transmission, prevention, and complications. The module specifically aims to inform non-medical audiences about the severity of measles, emphasizing the risk it poses to vulnerable populations, particularly infants too young to be vaccinated.

Process

Recognizing the urgent public health relevance of measles, I began by conducting foundational research to ensure accuracy and accessibility of content. I outlined learning objectives focused on increasing public knowledge, reducing misinformation, and emphasizing the importance of vaccination. Storyboarding and scripting were completed in GoogleDocs to align the visual and written elements before development began.

Given the informational (rather than professional certification) nature of the project, I decided to prioritize user engagement and clarity over complex assessments.

Design & Development

I developed the module using Articulate Storyline 360, incorporating visual assets created in Canva and Icon8 to enhance clarity and user engagement. The design features short, digestible content sections followed by a four-question knowledge check to reinforce key concepts. I initially considered pass/fail scoring but ultimately opted for a non-graded knowledge check, maintaining a low-pressure, educational environment for general audiences.

Adult learning principles such as chunking, relevance, and immediate reinforcement were embedded throughout the design to maximize retention without overwhelming the learner.

Full Development

Upon building the initial version, I conducted thorough quality assurance (QA) testing, ensuring seamless navigation, accurate content presentation, and appropriate feedback functionality on the knowledge check. I iterated based on usability testing, adjusting minor navigation flows and visual placements to enhance learner experience. The final product was designed for easy scalability should additional modules or topics be added in the future.

Results & Takeaways

This project reinforced the importance of designing with both relevance and audience needs at the forefront. Working on a topic of personal importance — protecting vulnerable populations like infants — made the project especially meaningful. I also strengthened my skills in visual asset integration, microlearning design, and balancing educational content with learner engagement.

Overall, this project affirmed my passion for creating accessible, impactful learning experiences on critical, real-world topics.
